Program details

This 260-hour micro-credential provides a comprehensive foundation for those aspiring to pursue a career as a spa practitioner. The micro-credential provides learners with a thorough understanding of the foundational learning related to the spa and wellness industry, focusing on a pathway to esthetics and nail technology. Key introductory topics include professionalism and industry workplace essentials, general skin and nail anatomy, infection control, and the critical importance of sanitation spa environments. Customer service and consultation strategies are also covered. Upon successful completion, learners will be equipped with the fundamental skills and knowledge to continue their educational journey with additional micro-credentials in specific to the industry stream they choose.


This micro-credential is the pre-requisite to the Esthetics and Spa Therapy and Nail Technician Micro-credentials.

Admission requirements

BC secondary school graduation or equivalent, or 19 years of age and out of secondary school for at least one year as of the first day of classes.


A scheduled meeting with AVÌìÌà staff to discuss interest in the industry, to clarify program requirements, and to provide counselling on entry into the program.

Program outline

Complete All of the following:
SPF 100 - Professional and Industry Essentials
SPF 101 - General Esthetics Anatomy and Nail Structure
SPF 102 - Infection Control and Sanitation
SPF 103 - Skin Care Foundations
SPF 104 - Customer Service and Consultation

Learners must attain a minimum of 70% in each of the courses in the micro-credential
